Activities
There are so many things to do in and around our villa that it's difficult to know what to tell you first!

You can swim, play boules or board games, relax in the hammock or cook up a meal at the villa.

In the village and local area the summer months are taken up with the village Fetes (festivals), which see bulls running through the streets (don't worry, no-one gets hurt), wine, beer and Ricard drunk by the gallon and late night dancing. There are often whole village meals under the stars to enjoy.

Or you can get adventurous further afield with day trips to amazing places, sporting activities, lovely meals out, visits to historic buildings, spend time at the beach or in the beautiful Camargue wetlands or stunning Cevennes mountains.

Below we've listed a few of our favourite things to do, but for a fuller list visit OUR BLOG!
![]() Cycling and Mountain BikingThere are dozens of routes directly from the villa in the hills and vineyards surrounding Fons. But you might also like to cycle on the Voie Vert to Sauve or, if you are more adventurous/sadistic, give the infamous ride up Mont Ventoux a go! | ![]() Swimming PoolPlunge into the pool, play with the inflatables, learn to swim, dive in, bomb or just relax on a lilo. Plenty of fun to be had - just keep safe! | ![]() Laze in the HammockRelax (or most likely fall asleep) with a good book and a drink in the hammock under the Mulberry trees. |

![]() FloraEnjoy the local flowers and countryside whatever the season of the year. In spring there are beautiful orchids in our garden, while the autumn sees the apricots ripen. | ![]() Bull RunningMarvel at the horsemanship of the local cowboys (and girls) as they steer bulls through the tight and winding streets of local villages. Fons' festivals are held in May and late August, with a special Bastille day celebration. | ![]() HikingThere are countless hiking routes around the villa, including a Grand Randonnee (GR63). Or you can travel up into the Cevennes mountains or down towards the flatter coastal region of the Camargue. The walking is through stunning scenery and can suit all ages. |
![]() Visit NimesEnjoy the roman heritage of Nimes (about 20 minutes away) by visiting the spectacular arena, Maison Carree or the gardens. Thursday nights are special during the summer as Nimes comes alive with late night shopping food and music in every street and square. | ![]() BeachesThe Mediterranean beaches are simply perfect for sunning yourself on. They are a family paradise and our favourites are at Grau du Roi and Grand Travers. But there are also great beaches at L'Espiguette and down near Marseillan. If you;re down that way why not take in the amazing sight of Water Jousting or taste the incredible local seafood. | ![]() Rock JumpingDare yourself to climb up and down, then leap into the Cascades de Sautadet! About an hour from the villa, these wonderful natural waterfalls are a fantastic way to spend a fun afternoon. Will you be brave enough to jump in from the very highest rocks like the locals? Or somersault on the way in?! |
![]() MarketsThere are loads of great markets around, but the best two for our money are to be found on a Saturday in the splendid towns of Uzes (20 minutes north east) and Sommieres (20 minutes west), where the bric-a-brac has to be seen to be believed. You will have local produce, soap, lavender products and jewelry coming out of your ears! | ![]() Visit Beautiful VillagesThere are so many stunning villages, such as La Roq-sur-Ceze (pictured) to visit, full of interesting nooks and crannies and plenty of artisan shops and markets to indulge yourself in. | ![]() Aqualand AvignonAqualand is the biggest waterpark in these parts. Amazing fun, with slides, shoots and lazy rivers, plus lots of splashing! |
![]() Visit the Pont du GardThe amazing Pont du gard - a Roman aqueduct - is a not-to-be-missed UNESCO World heritage site. You can either drive, park and walk to see this incredible site (where you can also bathe and jump in) or you can canoe from Collias down the beautiful Gardon river. | ![]() AvignonDance on the bridge at Avignon and visit the historic Palais des Papes, home of the Popes during the infamous schism of the 14th century. | ![]() CanoeingYou can canoe on pretty much any river in France, but the Gard, Ceze and Ardeche are fantastic rivers to enjoy the scenery and a packed lunch (or even stop at a restaurant), then swim in the cool waters. |
![]() Aigues MortesThe stunning walled town of Aigues Mortes is about 45 minutes' drive away, near the coastal towns of Grau du Roi and Port Camargue. It was the site of King Louis IX's departure for the crusades and boasts great shopping and an amazing church. | ![]() Visit VincentVan Gogh's Bedroom in Arles is one of his most famous pictures, well you can visit his actual house in the city, less than an hour away. While you're there enjoy the arena and amazing Roman remains, and visit the picturesque mountaintop village of Les Beaux, home to Grace Kelly and the Grimaldi family, Princes of Monaco. | ![]() Cosy Up to a FireIf you are staying in the Autumn or Winter the villa has a lovely fire to warm yourself in front of. |
